HERE BE WITCHES 01 • The Craft (1996) with Ione Gamble

The Final Girls are joined by Ione Gamble to discuss witchcraft, teen girl politics, and why Nancy Downs remains a bastion of weirdness for teenage girls everywhere.
The Final Girls are a UK-based film collective exploring the intersections of horror film and feminism.

Our first episode dives into the themes, teen goth aesthetic and legacy of The Craft (1996), starring Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, Rachel True and Robin Tunney. Anna is joined by Ione Gamble, editor-in-chief of Polyester Magazine, to talk about the group dynamics of the coven, the problematics of Manon, fuckboy #1 Chris Hooker, and why Nancy Downs remains a bastion of weirdness for teenage girls everywhere.

To coincide with our season of films and events, Here Be Witches, we will be focusing this first series on exploring all things witchcraft on film. Each episode, we will dive deep into films and TV shows that we can’t necessarily screen. Each episode, we’ll be joined with special guests to dissect and discuss a film or show, its legacy and the way witches are represented.
